In April 2024, we went to Osoyoos to shoot our next educational program! Did you know that conserving resources has been part of human survival since time immemorial?
In our next show, we visit with the Osoyoos Indian Band, learn how their Traditional Knowledge can teach us about sustainable living and why it’s important to make some changes to how we live!
Teacher Lesson Plan: Resource Conservation Program (K-7)
This lesson plan is designed to guide you through our resource conservation program. Feel free to adapt it to best suit the needs and interests of your students.
Week 1️⃣ - First Lesson
🎯 Objective:
Introduce students to the concept of resource conservation.
👩🏫 Activities:
Explore the slideshow with your learners. You will learn about the Osoyoos Indian Band, what are the natural resources, explore the pit houses, sustainability and insulation in houses, the concept of energy efficiency and much more!
Use the inquiry guide to support inquiry throughout the program. This awesome guide will help your learners thorough the whole program!
Week 1️⃣ - Second Lesson
🎯Objective:
Engage students in creative and hands-on activities related to resource conservation.
👩🏫Activities:
Choose between the creative challenge or the STEM challenge to stimulate student creativity and problem-solving skills. Depending on your schedule, you can also choose to do both!
Creative challenge #1: Make your own fun and beautiful or funny and quirky light switch cover. The main goal is to remind you to turn off the lights!
Creative challenge #2: Draw a map of your community resources, showing the main source of water, electricity and any other important resource in your area.
Stem Challenge: We're on a mission to find clever ways to conserve energy. You'll design your own 'Energy Detective Device' and learn how to make your home and school more energy-efficient.

Inspire imagination and storytelling related to resource conservation.
👩🏫 Activities:
Use the Story Challenge and the provided story prompts to ignite students' imagination and creativity.

Week 2️⃣ - Lesson Two
🎯 Objective:
Create a long lasting learning experience regarding resource conservation
👩🏫 Activities:
Watch the Live It Earth show! (22min)
Engage in the fun and interactive game challenge. Whether you play in teams or against each other, kids absolutely love it, and it is a great way to use their fresh knowledge
Week 3️⃣ - Lesson One
🎯 Objective:
Deepen students' understanding of resource conservation through exploration of related topics.
Encourage students to consider career pathways related to conservation.
👩🏫 Activities:
Go deeper after the show by discussing key concepts and themes.
Explore career pathways related to resource conservation using provided materials.
