With our new app, you can create a territorial welcome or a land acknowledgement as an augmented reality (AR) poster.

The AR poster makes a clear statement about who you are, what you value, and how you intend to move forward together with local First Nations in a good way. It creates authentic opportunities for conversation, learning, and connection.

    For school districts: CLICK HERE

    • Who delivers it: Must be done by an Indigenous Elder, Knowledge Keeper, Chief, or local community member of the specific traditional territory. This person can also acknowledge the other communities who live, work and play in the designated space. 

    • Meaning: It is a cultural protocol and a hosting act. The speaker greets visitors in a good way, ensuring safety and honoring ancestors.

    • Content: Often includes traditional language, songs, prayers, or the cultural background of the gathering.

    • Compensation: Always properly compensate and honor the Elder or Knowledge Keeper for their time, cultural labor, and traditional protocol (such as offering a traditional gift).

    • Who delivers it: Can be spoken by anyone who is a guest or visitor on the land, whether non-Indigenous or Indigenous to another region.

    • Meaning: It is an act of reconciliation, humility, and awareness. It honors the original rights holders and brings attention to ongoing Indigenous presence and colonial history.

    • Content: A concise statement naming the specific First Nation, Inuit, or Métis peoples of the area, any relevant treaties, and gratitude for the land.

    • When to use: Placed at the very beginning of a meeting, class, or event before other introductions.
