How To Get the Most from Live It Earth

One of the great things about a Live It Earth program, is that there is no right or wrong way to integrate it into a learning environment. Our blended-learning programs and ready-made teaching resources are designed to be flexible, so they can be used in the classroom or at home.

Eight times a school year, Live It Earth produces an inquiry-based and interactive program that has cross-curricular activities and challenges for students in Grades K to 7.

Each program includes:

  • A Feature Show (20 to 35 minutes).

  • A live Q+A with experts in the topic of the program.

  • A comprehensive teacher resource package filled with challenges and activities for the classroom.

A typical program is experienced in a classroom over a three-week+ period. The schedule can look something like the calendar example below, and is customisable to suit you and your students learning page, style and needs.

First Week

Monday:

  • Teachers receive an email notification that the program teacher resources are ready.

  • Teachers can get familiar with the latest program, and pick and pull resources to explore with their class.

Tuesday through Friday:

  • Print out copies or add the Inquiry Guide to google classroom.

  • Watch the program trailer as a class (introduction to the topic).

  • Explore the slideshow with students. (This may be done as a class activity or per student depending on the age and technology available in the classroom.)

  • Choose from Creative, STEM and Story Challenges to build engagement.

Second Week

Monday:

  • Keep exploring—complete and share challenge(s).

Tuesday:

  • Share your students’ Creative Challenge photos to Twitter using the hashtag #liveitearth so that we can feature it in our Live It Earth Art Collection.

Wednesday:

  • Gather student questions and submit them into the Q&A for the next day (learn how).

Thursday:

  • Feature Show premieres at 10am PST in English & French (if you’re unable to watch the Feature Show during the launch time, you can always watch it another day)!

  • Students can ask their questions via the Q&A from 10am to 12pm PST. Learn how to submit questions for the live Q&A.

Friday:

  • Review Q&A responses from experts to deeper student learning.

  • Test your knowledge and skill with the program’s Game Challenge.

  • Explore our Call-to-Action and Live it 360 resources for project-based learning.

Third Week +

Monday through Friday:

  • Continue on with Challenges or Call-to-Action.

  • Learn even more with our Career Pathways, Deep Dives and Indigenous Perspectives resources.

  • Have students select a self-assessment option to document their learning.

  • Consider exploring a Feature Show or resources from our Relive It Library that can connect or build on the interests of the class.
